Dinamo KAZAN rout Czech opponent to continue CEV Cup adventure

Dinamo KAZAN of Russia easily rallied to a 3-0 victory (25-11, 25-16, 25-16) also in their second matchup with VK UP OLOMOUC of the Czech Republic to move on to the 8th Finals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women and play there ZOK Bimal-Jedinstvo BRČKO of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After cruising to a 3-0 victory two weeks ago in the Czech Republic, Dinamo KAZAN repeated that same feat on home soil as well. The Russians immediately set the tone of the match by claiming a 12-6 lead in the first set and kept pressuring the Czech opponent with effective attacks from all sides, with Dinamo enjoying an evident physical edge as well. After leading 20-10, the hosts closed the first set off at 25-11.

Czech coach Jiri Teply almost changed the entire starting six in the second set but it did not produce the results he was hoping to get. Russian opposite Daria Isaeva (pictured) hit many powerful spikes and, after taking the second set by 25-16, Dinamo KAZAN secured their progression to the next round of the competition. As a result, head coach Rishat Gilyazutdinov decided to give some rest to his starting players and the second lines of Dinamo KAZAN enjoyed some game time in the third set. This, nevertheless, did not change the course of the match with the Russians rallying to another 25-16 win to seal a comprehensive 3-0 home victory.

Jiri Teply, head coach of VK UP OLOMOUC, said: “It was tough to play against a team as good as Dinamo KAZAN. We lost the home match 0-3 and today we played without showing any character, which did not happen two weeks ago in Olomouc. The most difficult thing for us was to cope with their serve. We should have played faster, but today it was impossible for us to do so. And if you do not succeed in doing so, it becomes difficult to stand the challenge brought by a block as high as the one of Dinamo.”

Alexander Perepelkin, assistant coach of Dinamo KAZAN: “It is sometimes difficult to remain focussed in a match where your team is so dominant. We tried some different solutions and used almost all of our players. At the end of the day, this victory is important for the team after we suffered two bad losses in the Russian national league and hopefully this result will help our players recover from a psychological standpoint.”
