Dinamo KAZAN book semi-final spot following show of strength in Serbian capital

Without too much of an effort, Dinamo KAZAN secured their spot in the semi-finals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women after they outplayed for the second time in a row Serbia’s reigning national champions Vizura BEOGRAD in straight sets (25-14, 25-16, 25-16).

Right from the beginning of the second round of this quarterfinal tie, everything was crystal-clear. Dinamo once again dominated at the net while the hosts were not able to find their best game. Even though they scored some very nice points, most of the time it was Dinamo to come out victorious at the end of the rallies.

The first set fully belonged to Dinamo KAZAN, as the Russians seemed to be playing in control since following their return home from Serbia they will contest the first game on schedule for the semis of the Russian national league. They stood out with their block while on the other side of the net, the young team of Vizura tried to keep the pace but without succeeding in doing so. The first set ended at 25-14 for Dinamo on a service error from Aleksandra Cirovic.

The “Serbian Sharks” fought back in the second set but the Russian team was just too strong. The second set followed the same trend as the previous one with many strong attacks, blocks and services as Dinamo finished this period with the score of 25-16 after 22 minutes of play.

The third set was a little closer, but the hosts could not manage to change the course of the game. The Tatars ended this set at 25-16 to seal a clear 3-0 victory after only 70 minutes of play.

Daria Isaeva was the top scorer of the match with 13 points while Sara Lozo paced the home team with 11.

Jovica Cvetkovic, head coach of Vizura BEOGRAD said after the match: “We must be satisfied. It was not easy to make it this far in this competition. This is a great result. We played against quality teams and the difference is huge. I am sorry that the girls did not show what they are capable of and they were not concentrated enough. I am sure they can do better but simply could not compete with Dinamo KAZAN, which is most likely going to win this competition.”
