Dinamo Kazan up and running after beating Hisamitsu Springs

Dinamo Kazan opened their campaign at the 2014 FIVB Women's Club World Championship with a convincing 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18) win in Pool B over struggling Hisamitsu Springs of Japan in the second day of the competition at Saalsporthalle in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday.

After Hisamitsu led in the first set with a marvelous performance, Dinamo Kazan rebounded back to win three successive sets in their way to achieve the victory that booked a semifinal ticket to their team and also for Brazil's Molico/Osasco after both teams become 1-0, while Hisamitsu finished their pool matches with a win- loss ratio of 0-2.

Kazan's Ekaterina Gamova proved to be the heart of her team as the opposite who shifted during the match to play as outside hitter scored 25 points to lead the match scorers followed by Quinn Larson-Burbach 11 points. Hisamitsu's opposite spiker Miyu Nagaoka led her team scorers with 19 tallies followed by hitter Yuki Ishii 17 points.

Dinamo started the match more disciplined and succeeded to lead from the start using the Hisamitsu errors in defence and attack, so they led 8-5 at the first TTO. Hisamitsu entered the game late but they but efficiently with the great improvement in their backline defence which allowed them to start the combinations led by the setter Chizuru Kotoh and thus they were ahead 16-15 at the second TTO. The Japanese team widened the score gradually using their outside hitter Risa Shinnabe and the opposite Miyu Nagaoka till 22-17. The Russian tower Ekaterina Gamova tried to come back after scoring twice from the backline, but Hisamitsu were too strong to combat and win the set 25-22.

In the second set the Japanese were more motivated and use their quick attacks to disturb the much taller Russian blockers. Again opposite Nagaoka scored from position 2 allowing her team to leap to 16-9 at the second TTO and forcing the Russian coach to make substitutions. The Russian team explodes suddenly and narrowed the point deficit gradually till they draw for the first time 18-18 and lead 20-19 after the coach changed Gamova's position to play outside hitter instead of opposite where she served her team to win the set 25-22 to draw 1-1.

Kazan went on with their spirit to lead constantly in the third set with led by Gamova and Antonella Del Core who conducted their team to lead throughout the set 8-2, 16-12. Hisamitsu fought back through their big gun Miyu and Yuki Ishii to save the set, but Kazan kept their pace to win the set 25-22.  Kazan dominated the fourth set with the extra ordinary performance of Gamova and Quinn Larson till they won the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.

Dinamo Kazan coach Rishat Gilyazutdinov:
“It was a hard game for us in the very beginning, as you saw in the first set. We didn’t know our opponent, as we had no information about them for our preparation. However, we found a way back into our game and could play better. We are now already qualified for the semi-finals, but we want to look where we can still improve.”

Dinamo Kazan  Jordan Quinn Larson–Burbach:
“We struggled a little bit in the very beginning of the game. On the other side, Hisamitsu played incredibly well in their own defense. We couldn’t get our points. Afterwards, as we did some changes in our pays, we could improve and find back to our game. We want to prepare now for the big game against the Brazilians tomorrow. It will be a tough fight.”

Hinamitsu Springs coach Kumi Nakada:
“I can’t explain why we had these problems after our win in the important set. We tried to find other ways to avoid their blocking game, as we prepared it in our trainings. This worked really well in the first set. I have to say that I am disappointed, as we wanted more in these two games. Nevertheless, it was an important experience for the whole team.”

Hinamitsu Springs captain Mizuho Ishida:
“We started really well into the game and got points by fast plays. I think they weren’t as ready as we were at the very beginning of the game - we had really good combinations in our game. However, afterwards it didn’t work anymore. We couldn’t play as well as before and lost this game”
