Agel PROSTEJOV long to take another scalp and beat also reigning champions Dinamo KAZAN

The players from Agel PROSTEJOV are radiating joy and happiness after edging their two rivals that were predicted to make it to the Final Four tournament of the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women (Rabita BAKU at home, Chemik POLICE away). And, as the prelims are coming to an end now, the Czech champions would also love to beat the third star-studded team in Pool A. PROSTEJOV are hosting Russian heavyweight Dinamo KAZAN at DDM Sports Centre on January 28 at 5:30pm for the sixth round of action. And it is going to be an amazing spectacle again!

The Czech team definitely deserves to be praised for their campaign in this year’s Europe’s finest competition. It is true they lost the first two matches in straight sets against Dinamo KAZAN away and Chemik POLICE at home, but they already outlined their potential in these matches by making most of the sets very close. Then they fully unfolded their potential in the two matches against Rabita BAKU (3:2 at home, 1:3 away) and especially on the hot ground of Chemik POLICE where they played brilliant Volleyball (3:2). That means, regardless of the result of the upcoming match with KAZAN, Agel PROSTEJOV have made an extraordinary achievement in the 2015 edition of the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League!

“After finding out that we would be placed in Pool A together with three extremely strong opponents, we just hoped to win some sets or a point and, deep inside, we hoped to take one sensational win. But we managed to build a very good team that is able to play terrific Volleyball and keep pace with the absolute favourites of the competition. Thanks to that we have recorded immensely valuable wins over BAKU and POLICE, which is something great. However, it is not possible to feel satisfaction ahead of time because the prelims are still in progress. Now there is the last match for us in Pool A and the last chance to make a surprise,” says Miroslav Cada, the head coach of Agel PROSTEJOV.

On the other hand, he is warning against the treacherous feeling that everything will work smoothly now. “On the contrary, there is another immensely tough match in front of us. Last year KAZAN became the winners of the Champions League and their roster has not really changed since that time, which speaks for itself. Their roster includes Russian internationals Evgeniya Startseva and Maria Borodakova and Italian-born Antonella Del Core and Bulgarian-born Eva Yaneva, both members of their respective national teams. And, of course, there is also Ekaterina Gamova, a 2m tall player and one of the top world-class Volleyball athletes. That means our rival has an excellent team in all aspects and we can make a success only if we deliver an entirely amazing performance. And we want to try it,” adds Cada.

The key thing on their path to a third sensational win will partially depend on the good defence against giant Gamova. Due to her performance KAZAN literally tore the Czechs to pieces in the first match and she was also a big help in the final parts of the sets. “If the player is over 200 cm tall and her spike reach is far over your blocks, it is logically a serious problem to defend against her. But defending does not consist only in blocking at the net, so we would like to adjust our tactics in light of that. But first we need to play our best Volleyball ever to succeed against the power of the defending champions,” stresses PROSTEJOV’s mentor.

Anyway, it is going to be a spectacular show again for the fans. “Every Champions League match represents a very special occasion and especially now under the given circumstances, because we are always the challengers in our pool and we are doing well now. So we would like to invite all Volleyball fans to come because we want to show them again the best we can do. And who knows, we might celebrate again,” Cada concludes.
