Defeat again
Dinamo-Ak Bars suffered the second in a row shutout loss in the first tour of Champions League – this time from the Polish Chemik.

Italy has lots of virtues – but the time of starting volleyball matches is not among them. The Kazan team had to play one of the three games of the first tour as the second pair at 10.30 pm by Moscow time. Such late fights are always hard for those who do not live by CET. Besides, the Kazan volleyball players were completely emotionally exhausted after the heavy defeat on the first day. At that, they had to oppose the team where the starting lineup consists almost completely of the players from the Polish national team, plus a strong Serbian opposite hitter.

The result of these problems for Kazan was seen on the scoreboard rather soon – 15:7. The situation started to improve more or less only after replacing the regulars for the young players not crushed by the previous failure. They managed to reduce the gap to three points, but it happened not earlier than at set point – 24:21. Bricio’s mistake resulted in losing the set.

Gilyazutdinov fielded the young from the beginning of the second set and they started positively – 3:6 after several attacks by Kadochkina. However, Bricio and the setter Startseva had no extra emotions or powers, and soon Dinamo fell back again – 11:9. This time it was not a large gap and the equal fight continued almost for the whole set period – 21:21. But in the tense final the Kazaners broke, made mistakes and lost the second set.

The Dinamo players seemed to have no will for further struggle – 6:3. It was close to midnight though, and both teams started making lots of mistakes – 14:10 after six misses in a row in serves on both sides! Still, the Polish team had more reasons for positive emotions, and they won the match.

Iga Wasilewska, middle blocker of Grupa Azoty Chemik POLICE: “We were eager to see our shape when playing for three days in a row and it seems that day by day we are feeling better and better on the court. We are very happy about this win and now we will focus on tomorrow game against Novara - we are confident about our chances”.

Samantha Bricio, outside spiker of Dinamo-Ak Bars KAZAN: “We didn’t show our value as a team in the first two days of this tournament. Today our mistakes made the difference, we didn’t play our volleyball and the result was a defeat. We still have a chance to progress from the 4th Round, so tomorrow we will have to do our best and secure a victory to react after these two losses.”
